A Magyar Tudományos Akadémia Csillagászati és Földtani Kutatóintézete a Facebook-oldalán hozta nyilvánosságra Demény Attilának, az MTA rendes tagjának az írását, amely arról szól, milyen egy kutató élete Magyarországon.
A Palkovics László vezette Innovációs és Technológiai Minisztérium egy június 12-én küldött e-mailben jelezte, hogy az Orbán-kormány a tárca felügyelete alá helyezte a MTA kutatóintézeteinek járó támogatás elosztását, a tudomány függetlenségét féltő aggályokra pedig Schmidt Mária hetilapja, a Figyelő listázással válaszolt, és elővette a neki nem tetsző akadémiai kutatókat.
Ennek kapcsán Demény Attila azt írja, hogy keserű szájízzel olvasta a cikket, amelyből az derül ki, hogy ő kutatóként a kívülálló számára „megint közellenség”, a közvagyont károsító ingyenélő lett. Ezután összehasonlítja a magyarországi és a nyugati kutatói fizetéseket, a magyarországi helyzet illusztrálásaként pedig elárulja, hogy neki esztergálni és üveget fújni is meg kellett tanulnia, egyszerűen azért, mert nem volt pénze, hogy megvegye a laborba kellő nyugati eszközöket.
Arra is kitér, hogy a bruttó nemzeti össztermék tekintetében hazánk és a nyugati átlag között kétszeres a szorzó, a fizetésben a tiszteletdíjjal együtt meg ötszörös.
